Cook County Soil & Water Conservation District announces annual tree & shrub sale date

Winter may feel like it's just getting started, but for some, it's time to think ahead to spring. Earlier today, the Cook County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) announced its annual spring native bulk tree and shrub sale, which begins on February 10 at 10 am. The Cook County SWCD, along with the South St. Louis County SWCD, will be offering just under 40,000 native trees and shrubs grown by the MN DNR State Nursery. According to the St. Louis County SWCD website, the following species will be available:
Shrubs/Small Trees
- Pin Cherry
- Choke Cherry
- Red-Osier Dogwood
- Silky Dogwood
- Wild Plum
Tall Trees
- Hackberry
- Bitternut Hickory
- Silver Maple
- Sugar Maple
- Bur Oak
- Red Oak
- White Oak
- Swamp White Oak
Evergreens
- Black Spruce
- Eastern Red Cedar
- Northern White Cedar
- Jack Pine
- Norway (Red) Pine
- White Pine
- White Spruce
Orders can be placed online on or after February 10 at 10 am or by mailing in an order form. Forms can be found here, or you can pick up a copy at the SWCD office at the Cook County Courthouse. For the best availability, the Cook County SWCD recommends ordering early.
The order pickup date is on Thursday, May 8, from 12 - 4 pm at the storage garage behind the Community Center in Grand Marais (Crechville Rd between Gunflint Trail and W 5th St).
