District 6 - Two Harbors area

Last updated: 2025-01-21

CO Sean Williams (Ely #1) reports trout angling activity was very well attended considering the extreme cold warning over the weekend. Success was good, but the size class found by most anglers was smaller than previous years. Violations included angling on a designated trout lake with no trout stamp, failure to display snowmobile registration, and expired snowmobile registration.

CO Brent Ihnen (Ely #2) focused primarily on checking fishing activity this week. He also patrolled his station for snowmobile and ATV use.

CO Anthony Bermel (Babbitt) worked predominately angling and snowmobile enforcement, including working the inland trout opener. Easily accessible lakes were extremely busy, but remote lakes were mostly untouched, presumably due to the frigid wind chills. Many violations were encountered including litter on the ice, no fishing license, no trout stamp, unattended lines, transporting fish without a skin patch, no ID or shelter tag on unattended shelters, and expired snowmobile registration.

CO Thomas Wahlstrom (Grand Marais) worked a detail with CO Fairbanks and area officers during the trout opening weekend. Most anglers who braved the cold had some nice fish to bring home. Enforcement action was taken for angling and snowmobile violations.

CO Hudson Ledeen (Hovland) spent the weekend patrolling angling and snowmobiling activity. Extreme winter weather did not deter anglers from getting out for trout opener. Multiple violations were discovered, and enforcement action was taken.

CO Trent Anderson (Tofte) focused on ice fishing and snowmobiling enforcement for the week. Assistance was given to the Cook County Sheriff Office on a multiple vehicle collision. Many anglers were out for the regular trout opener despite cooler weather, and most noted a slower bite. Enforcement action was taken for various angling related violations.

CO Megan Franzen (Silver Bay) spent time monitoring angling and snowmobiling activity. Despite the sub-zero temperatures, trout opener was busy, and anglers reported success. Time was also spent assisting local law enforcement agencies around the area. Enforcement action was taken for various angling violations.
