From Boreal Community Media - November 13, 2024

Welcome to the 2024 Boreal Community Media virtual non-profit highlight! In the past, Boreal Community Media hosted an event called Dessert to the Max to celebrate and recognize local non-profits and their incredible work for the community. The event typically coincided with the Minnesota-based celebration Give to the Max, hosted by GiveMN, an annual celebration and “giving holiday” to all non-profits across the state.

This year, instead of an in-person celebration, Boreal is virtually honoring and highlighting these organizations on Boreal.org

The non-profit organization we’re highlighting today is:

Organization Name

Let's Plant Trees

Mission/Work

Let's Plant Trees is a Cook County-based non-profit dedicated to reforestation. We provide free tree seedlings to Northeastern Minnesota property owners and support other organizations with volunteer tree planting projects.  We also provide information about what species to plant, and where and how to plant them.  By planting more trees, we can combat climate change and mitigate the impacts of pests, wildfires, and other disturbances.

Area residents are invited to order free tree seedlings from our informative website at www.LetsPlantTrees.org (although we are running out of some species for 2025, of the 15,000 we have ordered!)

Upcoming events

We will be tabling at the Minnesota Family Woodlands Conference on January 11, 2025 in Grand Rapids (extension.umn.edu/event/minnesota-family-woodlands-conference) and presenting information on why, how and where to plant trees at various locations around the region in Spring of 2025.

A fun fact about Let's Plant Trees

A fun fact about Let's Plant Trees is that we are growing quickly!  In our inaugural year of 2023, we gave away 500 tree seedlings, in 2024 we gave away 5,000 and in 2025 we are giving away 15,000.  We are already planning to give away 30,000 tree seedlings in 2026.  We are grateful to the support of our local community, and to the Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation for helping us pay for these seedlings so that we can increase reforestation efforts across the region.

How someone can donate

Individuals and businesses are also welcomed to make donations either on our secure website or on Give To The Max day at www.givemn.org/organization/Lets-Plant-Trees.
