Last updated: 2024-10-21CO Anthony Bermel (Babbitt) worked the busy MEA weekend. Time was also spent on problem wolf calls, nuisance bear calls, a wildfire investigation, and presenting to a career class at MN North Vermilion. Violations for the week included an ATV DWI arrest, operating on a state highway, open container of alcohol, expired registration, passengers under 18 without helmets, unregistered OHM, trespass, fail to transfer watercraft ownership, and leaving bear bait signs out more than 48 hours after the close of the season. Grouse hunting pressure is extremely high in the area.
CO Thomas Wahlstrom (Grand Marais) checked small game hunters and anglers out enjoying the warm weather. The back roads were busy with road hunters all in a line following each other trying to shoot a grouse. Enforcement action was taken for transport loaded firearms, watercraft registration and license violations.
CO Hudson Ledeen (Hovland) spent the week checking anglers and small game hunters. CO Ledeen along with CO Wahlstrom and CO Anderson conducted ATV Safety field day for Cook County Junior High School students. Equipment maintenance was performed.
CO Trent Anderson (Tofte) focused on ATV and grouse hunting enforcement for the week. Many hunters were afield over the MEA weekend. Enforcement action was taken for various ATV related violations.
CO Don Murray (Two Harbors) worked small game and youth deer hunting activity. Weather cooperated with the youth hunters and made conditions mild allowing more time in the field. ATV activity was high this week with many hunters out checking deer stands and grouse hunting. Murray also investigated shoot from roadway and illegal deer baiting activity.
