How long have you been working at Great Expectations School?

I am the Otters homeroom teacher. I teach math and science for both 7th and 8th grade. This will be my 3rd year as this role.

What is the best part of your work day?

My best part of the day is when I realize that we spent an hour super engaged on just a very few topics. For example, the rock cycle is the formation, breakdown and reformation of igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks. It seems unlikely learn about this for more than 15 mins, but with some inspiration, we leave with excitement and very concrete understanding! Most of all, I love seeing the students grow to feel confident and strong with mathematics, especially if they seem very anxious or scared of it at the start.

What are some hobbies that you enjoy when you are not busy working?

Off-duty, I am a handyman, repair vehicles/ home, kimchi vendor, fisherman, hunter, hockey player/mites coach, mountain biker, bike mechanic, BWCA adventuring, forager, and I play one video game called Age of Empires 2.

I've a family of 3 daughters and we commute between the communities of Silver Bay and Grand Marais.  We started our family in Georgia and lived there for almost a decade and decided to take a big chance and blow into town 5 years ago! We are working hard to build our name and establish ourselves here in these two very different and strong communities. Our goal is for our children to know deeply the land and people they call home so that they may grow strong, recognized and respected.
