The Grand Marais Garden Club hosted its 90th Anniversary Garden Show on Saturday afternoon at the Cook County Community Center. Over 200 attendees enjoyed refreshments, camaraderie, and 68 floral arrangements presented by garden club members. Visitors from 16 states and 2 countries (Canada and France) were present.
The Grand Marais Garden Club was founded in 1934 by just 19 members. The club has held strong through the generations and continues to grow its presence. They now have about 50 members. Linda Smith, the club’s President, was very happy with the turnout and displays.
The Lake Superior Garden Club started in Thunder Bay last winter and brought a serious showing of members down to Grand Marais. Linda Parker, the event planner for the club, said the club brought about 20 of their 60 members down for the day. The newly-founded club is inspired by the longevity and success of their southerly neighbors. A letter from Thunder Bay’s mayor, Ken Boshkoff, was delivered to congratulate Grand Marais’ club on their 90th anniversary.
