The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Cook and Lake Counties until 12:15 am on Wednesday. 2-4 inches of rain have already fallen, and an additional 2-3 inches are expected in the warning area.

According to the National Weather Service, "Life-threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. High flows and fast-moving water are expected on North Shore rivers and streams. Flooding or complete washouts of forest roads and gravel roads are likely."

If you encounter a flooded road, turn around - especially at night. Campers and hikers should avoid flooded trails and crossings. If camping next to a river or stream, move to higher ground. Hilly terrain can quickly become unstable after heavy rainfall.

There are multiple reports of flooding and down trees, especially around the Sawbill Road,  Gunflint Trail, and Highway 61. The Iron Range and other areas of the North Shore have also reported extensive flooding.

The US Forest Service Superior has already closed areas around Lake Vermilion in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness due to washouts. The organization will be reaching out to permit holders tomorrow who are affected.

Our friends at Cascade Lodge and Restaurant posted the video below of water flowing under their footbridge.
