This spring in Cook County, there were concerns that the North Shore's waterfalls wouldn't be as impressive as usual due to the low amount of snow we received this winter. However, recent heavy rainfall has been good news for those hoping to see the falls in all their glory, especially this holiday weekend.
But viewing the falls doesn't come without risk. The National Weather Service has issued a warning of caution for fast-moving, swollen waterways and slippery surfaces surrounding falls for the next two days. "With recent heavy rains, waterways are swollen and running fast. If out viewing rivers and waterfalls, use caution around hazards like slippery rocks, tall cliffs, deep pools, and strong currents. Keep an eye on kids and pets."
In addition, it is advised to check the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources or US Forest Service website for any potential closures due to flooding or trail damage (see links below).
