Come learn more about Kat Sherer, one of the amazing staff members at Oshki Ogimaag Community School!
How long have you been working at Oshki Ogimaag Community School?
This is my 7th year working at Oshki Ogimaag Community School.
What do you look forward to most when coming to work each day?
I really enjoy seeing students develop and become more confident at school and seeing them learn and grow as learners. I also love the fact that I am able to have such a huge impact on these students' lives. Every day is different and it is never boring!
Did you always know you wanted to work in education?
I actually started my career in accounting and finance and it wasn't until I moved back home to Grand Portage that I started working in education. I saw the job opening and applied and I loved it from the very first day I started. I love that I am able to teach in the place I grew up and that I can relate to my students and families. I also love that I can do all the cultural things I enjoyed and grew up doing while passing it on to the younger generation.
Where is your favorite place to go in Cook County for a day of fun and relaxation?
My favorite place to go in the County for fun and relaxation would be anywhere close to Gichi Gumee (Lake Superior), whether it's fishing or just simply sitting on the beach.
What is a fun fact about you that many people may not know?
A fun fact that many people may not know is that I play the piano and love playing classical music.
