The DNR Enforcement Division currently is recruiting candidates without previous law enforcement experience to apply for its CO Prep program. In order to apply, candidates need at least a two-year degree. The CO Prep program provides them the necessary education to become licensed peace officers and attend the Conservation Academy at Camp Ripley.
Successful applicants will receive about 22 weeks of law enforcement education and training at Hennepin Technical College before beginning the CO Academy in the spring of 2024. During their time at Hennepin Technical College and at the CO Academy, candidates will be paid 70 percent of the base salary for a conservation officer.
The application period is open through March 31. During the application period, the DNR will hold two open houses for people who are interested in learning about the CO Prep program, and about conservation officer careers in general.
- March 15 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the DNR Central Office in St. Paul.
- March 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College in Cloquet.
Additional information, including a link to the application, is on the DNR’s conservation officer careers and hiring web page.
