Cook County / Grand Portage local residents and visitors alike were treated to a large sight in the Grand Marais harbor last night and this morning - the Nao Santa MarĂa - a tall ship heading to the Festival of Sails. Word has it that due to storms and heavy fog in the area, the ship had to dock for the evening.

The Spanish ship, built in 2018, is a replica of the ship Columbus captained.  The Santa Maria is part of the Nao Victoria Foundation, which is a non-profit which focuses on spreading awareness of historical events through ports around the world.

For more information about the ship, you can follow its Facebook page here.

If you're a tall ship fan and are interested to learn the nitty-gritty details about the Nao Santa Maria, you can find those here.

Rumor has it the ship will be around until sometime this afternoon before heading down to Two Harbors.

Enjoy!
