Public Health and Human Services Workers Recognized in Governor’s Proclamation

Cook County, along with communities across the State, are recognizing County, City, Tribal, and State Health and Human Services WorkerDay in Minnesota on Wednesday, December 8, following a proclamation by Governor Tim Walz.

“This is an opportunity to recognize the valuable work performed by all Cook County Public Health & Human Services staff throughout the year,” said Alison McIntyre, Director – Cook County Public Health & Human Services. “Every staff member within the Public Health and Human Services department plays an important role in fulfilling our mission of supporting the health, safety and well-being of the community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, our staff have been on the front lines of response work and continuing to provide essential community services.

Cook County employs 30 people in the Public Health & Human Services Department who deliver and connect residents to supportive services, including:

  • Economic Assistance and Health Care Programs: Food support, cash assistance and emergency assistance. Eligibility and enrollment in Minnesota Health Care programs.
  • Public Health Prevention and Community Health Promotion: Promotion of health and wellbeing initiatives through education and community assessments; health service information and referral to resources; Public Health emergency preparedness, planning, and response.
  • Social Services: Services for children and families including children’s mental health and child safety services and services that help persons withdisabilities and seniors remain in their own homes. Help with treatment options and sources of funding for substance use disorder treatment. Licensing for family childcare providers and foster care providers.

Cook County also honors the work done in partnership with health and human services staff at Grand Portage Human Services, Grand Portage Health Services, Sawtooth Mountain Clinic, and other public service organizations in the community.
