Bike Rodeo Maintenance and Helmet Events

Apr 15, 2021 10:01AM ● By Editor

GRAND MARAIS, MINN. (April 15th, 2021) –

Due to the uncertain nature of the pandemic and how it will affect the annual Bike Safety Rodeo, the Safe Routes to School Committee, Fireweed Bike Co-op, and the Grand Marais Dairy Queen are sponsoring smaller maintenance and helmet fitting events through April and early May.

Your child can bring their bike to the event to have the maintenance completed and do a helmet fit check.  A small number of helmets will be available for kids who need one.

The outdoor events in Grand Marais will be held from 12p to 4p on Saturday, April 17th and Saturday, April 24th.  The address of the events is: 8 7th Ave. W (Art House B&B/Fireweed Bike).

There will also be an outdoor maintenance and helmet event held in Grand Portage on May 1st from 12p-4p at the Community Center.

No preregistration is required.  These are outdoor only events that require face coverings and physical distancing.  Please stay home if you are ill or have been exposed to COVID-19 or determined as a close contact.  If you are unable to attend any of the scheduled events due to illness, contact Jay Arrowsmith DeCoux at 218-370-1625 to discuss alternative options.

Each child that attends a maintenance event will receive a Dairy Queen Blizzard certificate and a small thank you gift from the SRTS Committee.

For more information about Safe Routes to School or the maintenance events, contact SRTS Coordinator, Andrea Orest, at 218-877-8262 or [email protected].

*Please note that the Safe Routes to School committee, Minnesota Department of Health, and Statewide Health Improvement Partnership work together to encourage walking and biking to school, but do not assume liability for anyone’s commute to or from school.
