With the latest round of COVID restrictions going into place this weekend, more people are looking at filing for unemployment again.

One of them is Courtney Edwards, who's a manager and server at The Boat Club. "We all saw it coming. But we were hoping it would be after the holiday season."

She filed for unemployment for the first time ever, when the pandemic first started. "It's a scary thing, not knowing what's going to happen with your job. Not knowing what the future holds. It's an uneasy feeling," she remembered.

As she looks at filing again, she is feeling supported by her employer. "Jason and Jeff, they are very positive, and make us feel like we will be OK at the end of this."

Elena Foshay, the director of Workforce Development, recommended people file for unemployment as soon as they can. "The benefits are not what they are, the first time around, we don't have that additional $600 a week. But it's something."

She said they have staff helping people every day. And there are employers who are looking for people to fill spots, so maybe a career change could help you during this time.

According to DEED, there were about 137,000 Minnesotans who were unemployed in October.
