Cook County is blessed to having many passionate and dedicated non-profit organizations that work hard to enhance the lives of the people who live here. This month, the Cook County Community Foundation is partnering with Boreal Community Media to salute many of its past grant recipients and how they have put those dollars to work to help make our community a better place to live.

EXPOSING COOK COUNTY AUDIENCES TO THE JOYS OF CLASSICAL MUSIC
By Barb LaVigne of The Borealis Chorale and Orchestra
The Borealis Chorale and Orchestra is an inclusive organization that attracts singers and instrumentalists from as diverse backgrounds and demographics as can be found in Cook County. We have been proud to present one of the few opportunities for our community, and especially our youth, to be exposed to classical music, both as participants and as audience members.
We typically consist of about 70 vocalists and 20 instrumentalists. The BCO is a powerful tool for building connections and trust among a diverse group of community members. We welcome participants from all walks of life, old, young, pagan, Christian, conservative,
Our concerts attract audiences in excess of 200 and have become a community tradition.
Any member of the BCO choir or orchestra will attest to the education they receive each and every rehearsal. Our director, Bill Beckstrand is a talented musician and a gifted teacher. CCCF grants enable us to compensate Bill for the many hours he spends in preparation and rehearsals.
