GRAND MARAIS PLAYHOUSE AFTERSCHOOL THEATER PROGRAM
By Sue Hennessy, Director of the Grand Marais Playhouse

The Grand Marais Playhouse began an afterschool theater program on September 15, thanks to the support from the Cook County Community Fund. The program is led by Playhouse Director Sue Hennessy and is open to youth in grades 3-8 and has two sessions a week. One on the performance aspects of theater including acting and directing and a session on the technical aspects of theater including design, lighting, sound, costuming and stage management.

The programs runs from September to December. If successful and funds can be secured, the program will be ongoing.

There are currently 16 youth participating in the pilot program.

Besides theatrical learning, participants also learn ensemble building, creative thinking, public speaking, literature, math, and physics  as well as grow in confidence and self esteem.
