This week, GiveMN kicks off its GiveatHomeMN fundraising drive during the COVID-19 Pandemic.  Thousands of Minnesota nonprofits and schools are supporting our communities during the COVID-19 pandemic, from Luverne to Grand Portage, Winona to Hallock, and everywhere in between. #GiveAtHomeMN is a celebration of Minnesota's generosity during tough times, a call to give back as we're able to help the organizations that make our state a great place to live, work and play.  The event will run statewide from µay 1 to May 8, 2020.

For residents and visitors to Cook County and the North Shore of Minnesota, we humbly encourage you to donate to Boreal Community Media during this special fund-raising event.

Recently, the Lake County News Chronicle announced they are going out of business and no longer publishing the newspaper or on-line, leaving a huge gap in local news coverage in the Two Harbors and Silver Bay areas.  Many regional publications now require a paid subscription to access on-line news.

But Boreal Community Media remains free to all at boreal.org!  No paid subscriptions! With free access to local and regional news 24/7 365 days at year!

Whether it is important public notices and announcements from local Cook County area government departments, news of the efforts of our local non-profit organizations to help the community or messages of changed operations from local businesses, Boreal Community Media is here to present the news you need in this historic time.  We also offer a community calendar, classified advertising and a business directory.  And feature updates on local, regional and state-wide emergency management information including what you need to know about COVID-19 on our Boreal Emergency Preparedness Portal at www.boreal-emergency.org.

All for free!

Your tax deductible donation to Boreal Community Media will help keep us going strong when so many other news organizations are faltering or are limiting access to only those that have the dollars to spend for a paid subscription.  Our small staff and volunteers are dedicated to keep providing the FREE local news and information you need to stay informed, engaged and in step with developments in our local community and across the state of Minnesota.

By supporting Boreal Community Media, you are also supporting the education and enhanced technical skills of our local high school students to help them get an advantage as their pursue further education.

Boreal has two student interns from Cook County High School who provide FREE technical support for our members - even remotely during the era of social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.  They can help with your email accounts, setting up new devices and keep you connected with loved ones through video conferencing platforms.  And we have a Cook County high school student journalism intern who reports the local stories that ensure student voices are heard in Cook County and on the North Shore.
