The Grand Marais grocery stores (Gene’s Foods, Johnson’s Foods and the Cook County Whole Foods Co-op) have been working diligently to provide services to the community while keeping their employees safe during this crisis.  Through collaborative conversations, the stores have made the decision to provide only curbside pick-up and deliveries starting Wednesday, March 25th.  

What this means for community members: you can call or email your orders to each store, and they will pack your orders and schedule a time for curbside pick-up or delivery.  There will be limited delivery dates for each store as well for community members who are unable to get to the store to pick up their order.  It is important that community members remain patient with the stores during this process.  All stores will be accepting payment in the form of credit/debit cards and SNAP benefits.  Johnson’s and Gene’s will be accepting payment in check form and WIC as well.

What this means for grocery stores and their staff members: The stores will be working hard to get your orders filled and ready as quickly as possible.  Their employees will be able to maintain a safe distance from large numbers of people during the social distancing effort. 

We are looking for community volunteers to help with this endeavor, as there will be a large volume of orders to fill each day.  If you are willing to volunteer your time to help stores take orders, pack groceries, do curbside pick-up duties or make deliveries in the county, please sign up online at mnresponds.org.

Present dates planned for delivery, pending volunteers and staff available:

Gene’s Foods: 

• Monday through Saturday 9-7, parking lot pickup orders, call ahead please. 
• Deliveries on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Cook County Whole Foods Co-op:  

• Curbside pickup 10-6 daily.  
• Deliveries on Tuesday and Friday.

Johnson’s Foods:  

• Monday thru Saturday curbside orders every day 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  
• Deliveries on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Gene’s Foods: by telephone at 218-387-1212; by email at [email protected].  If you call in, a shopper will stay with you on the phone as they go through each aisle, making sure they get the correct items that you want.
