Great Expectations Parent Drop-off & Pick-up Changes

Media Release from Safe Routes to Schools - March 11, 2020

For several years, GES and Law Enforcement have been working together with Cook County's Safe Routes to School team to make student drop-off and pick-up safer for children and their families.  A recent review of the process identified an area of risk regarding cars parking too close to the intersection of County Road 7 and the Gunflint Trail.  While this is not an everyday occurrence, we believe it needs to be addressed to reduce the chance of an accident.

Beginning on Monday, March 30th, the drop-off/pick-up zone will have fewer designated parking spaces between the crosswalk and the corner.  An area will be marked with a sign that says “no parking here to corner.”  A few spots will remain available on the east side of the crosswalk, with all other parking west of the crosswalk.

Please remember that no student transfers are allowed in either parking lot before or after school, as these areas are reserved for bus and staff traffic during these times.

If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback related to this change, please contact the GES office at 218-387-9322.  Thank you for your cooperation with this change and with all our on-going efforts to support student safety.
