The Faces of Cook County - Shawn Buckroyd Shares How She Landed in Cook County

Shawn's smiling face and warm personality are well known throughout Grand Marais even though she has only been here for just a few years.  Shawn shared the story on how her journey led her to Cook County in 2017.

Shawn was at a point where she knew that she needed a change in her life.  Her father, who had owned several businesses in Alaska, including a fly-fishing resort, had recently passed away.  She lived in Columbia Heights and was tired of the daily commute to work and the big city life.  She came up north for a visit, fell in love with the area, and then began the process of trying to figure out a way that she could make a living here.

An answer to her prayers happened shortly after that first visit.  While having lunch at Dockside, she chatted with the owner about her predicament.  The owner offered her a job right then and there.  The rest is history.  She took a leap of faith and is now enjoying being a homeowner here in Cook County.

When asked what she enjoys most about life here, Shawn said that "the simple life is so peaceful and the people are so genuine and caring".  One of the most surprising lifestyle changes since living here is how adaptable people are here, according to Shawn.

If she could offer tips to anyone thinking of moving to Cook County, Shawn said that " the outdoors are even more beautiful that you could ever imagine".
