Monday, December 30 was a chance for the public to say hello to the new owners of White Pine North and say goodbye to Jim and Jackie Larsen, who sold the operation to Tyler and Jessica Dean after 45 good years in business.

Many people know Tyler. He grew up in Grand Marais, graduating from Cook County High School in 2007. After spending 10 years in full-time missionary for Youth With A Mission, Tyler met Jessica in Switzerland in 2012. They married in 2015, settling down in Grand Marais. In 2017 Tyler became the general manager for Naniboujou Lodge and Restaurant. The couple now has one child, a 2-year-old boy named Oliver.

As for Jim and Jackie, they may travel more often, but they aren’t planning on moving from their Devil Track Lake home.

After 45 years Jim and Jackie decided it was time to sell the iconic store known for a wide selection of Boundary Waters Coffee, clothing, jewelry, gifts, purses and unique food items. Tyler and Jessica will undoubtedly make some changes, but not right away. For now they will learn the ins and outs of the trade, get to know their customers, and settle into a new business with deep roots in the community.
