The Friends of the Boundary Waters Wilderness are hosting a weekend of dogsledding, snowshoeing and sledding in the BWCAW. Based out of YMCA Camp Menogyn on the Gunflint Trail, the Winter Weekend provides a great opportunity for individuals and families to get outside and enjoy the unique Boundary Waters landscape in winter.
Winter Weekend attendees stay in shared, heated cabins at YMCA Camp Menogyn. Cabins are furnished with bunk beds and have access to indoor restrooms. Attendees will be responsible for providing their own bedding. Meals will be prepared by camp staff and are served family-style in Menogyn’s dining hall.
Friends and Menogyn staff will lead half-day and full-day skiing and snowshoeing outings during the weekend. Families are also welcome to make their own adventure plans and are not required to participated in planned outings. If conditions are right for dogsledding, Menogyn staff will create a running schedule. Individuals can sign-up to get time in the sleds. Staff will give a brief introduction to the dogs, safety, etc.
Weekend fees include the cost of lodging, meals and equipment. Menogyn and Friends merchandise will be available for purchase, independent of trip fees.
