Last week, the Quaife family and Mike's Holiday hosted a second blood drive in honor of their teenage daughter Payton.

In 2022, Payton Quaife was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura, or ITP. Part of the treatment for this particular disease includes receiving transfusions.

In March of 2023, the Quaife family wanted to do something as a way to give back and help make a difference for others who may need transfusions. So, they decided to host a blood drive (sponsored by Mike's Holiday, which the Quaife's own), in partnership with Memorial Blood Drives.

The drive ended up being a huge success, with community members coming out in a typical March snowstorm to give blood.

So, was the second one as successful as the first?

Boreal Community Media talked to Courtney Quaife, Payton's mom, who said "We surpassed our goal of 98 donors by 113%!"

Out of the 109 people who registered, 106 units were donated, which is the equivalent of 318 potential lives saved.

"We had a ton of first-timers who are now hooked and can’t wait for the next drive. They said it wasn’t that bad, and they'd definitely do it again," Quaife said.

If you missed the first two drives, you're in luck. Quaife shared that they are planning a third one for fall of 2023.
