Understanding Copper-Nickel Sulfide Mining: A Free Community Workshop

Understanding Copper-Nickel Sulfide Mining: A Free Community Workshop
July 16 | 12:30-3:30pm | At CCHE
Presenters: J.D. Lehr, Geologist; Margaret Watkins, Water Quality Specialist, Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa; and Sean Leary, North of North Resort, Ely.

Join the Cook County Coalition of Lake Associations (CCCoLA) for an informative community workshop exploring copper-nickel sulfide mining and what it may mean for our region. Participants will learn about the mining process, gain a clearer understanding of potential impacts on the waters and shorelands within the Rainy River and Lake Superior watersheds, and explore what these considerations could mean for local businesses. This workshop offers an opportunity to learn, ask questions, and engage in thoughtful conversation about an important topic affecting our community. We will have three speakers providing 15-minute presentations each. There will be a breakout session after each speaker for small group discussions. The workshop will wrap-up with a general discussion on common themes & unique perspectives.
