Long-time GMAC collaborator and Great Lakes-centric poet and artist Moheb Soliman returns to Grand Marais this year for a new project: A Poem of Sublime Proportion. And he has a simple request of you: GIVE HIM FOUR WORDS! Moheb seeks to source language from 10% of Grand Marais’ population (local, visitor, other, doesn’t matter) to incorporate into a line of a poem about Great Lakes nature/culture/sense of place. This line will be embedded in sculpture somewhere on the Grand Marais shoreline. Other lines will be developed and installed in the same way with other communities all around the Great Lakes, accumulating to a whole poem, circling the entire region, using locally sourced language and materials. Come learn more about the ambitious vision, and the extensive logistics, of this interdisciplinary poetry/land art/social practice project and contribute YOUR FOUR WORDS that define our corner of the region to you.
