Tree Planting and Care for Beginners

In this workshop we’ll cover the basics of sourcing trees, site selection, tree choices, and best practices for planting and caring for trees.

As the saying goes, “The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second-best time is now.” Planting trees on your land is a great idea for many reasons, but if you haven’t done it before it can be a daunting task! In this workshop we’ll cover the basics of sourcing trees, site selection, tree choices, and best practices for planting and caring for trees. If you want to plant a few trees in your yard, or hundreds in your woodland, you’ll gain tips and tricks to help you succeed. This workshop is co-hosted by Sugarloaf Cove Nature Center, Cook County UMN Extension, and Cook County Soil and Water Conservation District.

Participants are asked to bring a pair of work gloves if you have them to use during the hands-on practice portion of this workshop. Dress for the weather, we will primarily be outside.
