GERALD M. “GARY” HOUGLUM

Gary Houglum, 78, Grand Marais, died Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at North Shore Health.

Gary was born November 30, 1940 to Orvis and Hazel (Remme) Houglum in Faribault and grew up and attended school in Kenyon. He married Karen Geyer in 1959 and they moved to Grand Marais in 1979, where Gary worked as a carpenter for many years for Isak Hansen and Sons.

Gary was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing and time spent with family.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Karen, and a brother, Howard. He is survived by his sons, Scott (Renee Benson) of Grand Marais and Brian (Monica) of Anchorage, Alaska; grandchildren, Brianna (Ross) Fraley and Brandon Houglum; great-grandchildren, Emerson and McKenna; a brother, Sheldon (Lynetta) Houglum; a sister, Sharon (Bob) Bailey; sister-in-law, Beth Houglum; brothers-in-law, David (Sharon) Geyer, Alan (Sharon) Geyer, and Larry (Audrey) Geyer; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Grand Marais. Burial will be in Poplar Grove Cemetery.
