Sky Blue with Horns
Celebrating the role of horns in the history of jazz
NSMA's “Jazz May” continues with "Sky Blue with Horns," a high-octane concert celebrating the role of horns in the history of jazz.
Tom Pfotenhauer, virtuoso on trumpet and flugelhorn, joins Sky Blue Jazz Ensemble. Pfotenhauer, a music professor at the UMD, performs classical, jazz, and popular music regionally and nationally. Sky Blue’s members are: Mike Roth, string bass; Karina Roth, vocals; Erik Hahn, saxophone and flute; Eric Anderson, trombone; Thomas Stamps, percussion and vocals: and Mike DeBevec, piano and vocals.
The program will include well-known jazz standards from George Gershwin, Miles Davis, and Chick Corea, pop/jazz fusion tunes from Blood, Sweat and Tears, Sting, and Etta James, and original horn tunes and arrangements by band members Pfotenhauer, Anderson, and DeBevec. Soaring horns, rich vocal harmonies, and complex rhythms will fill the venue, providing a lush and exciting adventure for your ears.
Tickets ($15 for adults, and $5 for youth ages 18 and under) will be sold at the event only, starting one-half hour before show time.
