Cook County Higher Education
Mental Health Workshops in May
In May we are partnering with with the Veteran Affairs office to bring in Amy Wood to speak on Suicide Prevention and Awareness!
“Suicide Prevention and Awareness”- The objectives of this training include how to assess for suicide risk, increase military cultural awareness, and how to effectively work with military members in crisis.
Free and open to the public!
This workshop focuses on how to identify the warning signs and risk factors of suicide, how to ask a person if they are suicidal, and where to refer them for professional help.
Amy Wood: I am the Recovery Coordinator and Peer Support Supervisor at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System. I have worked here for 11 years, all of which has been in mental health. I have experience working with patients diagnosed with schizophrenia, as well as those at high risk for suicide. I provide training for several active duty units among all branches of the military. I also teach CIT (Crisis Intervention Training) with law enforcement several times per month. Working for VA is my way of serving my country, and it is an honor for me to serve veterans and service members in this capacity.
This event is made possible by a grant from the North Shore Health Care Foundation
