Visitors are invited to discover the museum exhibits, nature center, historic grounds, and scenic trails while experiencing the rich history, vibrant culture, and natural beauty of the Gunflint Trail.

The following presentations are held at Chik-Wauk, they are free and open to the public, sponsored by Visit Cook County.

Monday, July 6 - Nature Talk: Wild Cats (Museum Porch), 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. 

Tuesday, July 7 - Kids' Day, 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Free admission for the kiddos (0 - 18)


Friday, July 10 - Guided Nature Hike: 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. 

Sunday, July 12 - Chel Anderson: Northwoods Orchids, 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.


Artist-in-Residence Program
    Sunday, July 12 - Scott Krohn, Mini-Exhibit & Live colored pencil demo: 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
    Held at the Schaap Community Center (7401 Gunflint Trail, Grand Marais, MN) Suggested donation.

The buildings will be open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. through October 18, welcoming guests of all ages to experience this special Northwoods destination throughout the season.
Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center is located off the Gunflint Trail (Hwy 12) turn right onto Moose Pond Drive (Cty Rd 81).

Admission charge

  • $6/adult
  • $3/children 5 – 18, under 5 are free.
  • Discounts for Senior Citizens and the Military.
  • Free admission for anyone with a Gunflint Trail Historical Society membership.

Chik-Wauk Museum & Nature Center is a partnership of The Gunflint Trail Historical Society (501c3) and U.S.D.A. Forest Service Superior National Forest, Gunflint Ranger District.
