From Pastor Tom Murray, Lutsen Lutheran Church - March 28, 2026

Do you know a Cook County youth who’d like to attend camp this summer?  Lutsen Lutheran Church wants to help make it possible!   We’re funding camperships for Wilderness Canoe Base, a family-based camp on Seagull Lake ... Cathedral of the Pines, Mount Olivet’s camp on Caribou Lake ... Camp Menogyn, a YMCA wilderness camp on the Gunflint Trail ... Coldwater Foundation, a wilderness adventure camp based on Mink Lake ... and Camps Vermilion and Hiawatha, ELCA youth camps in the Cook and Grand Rapids areas.

How does this work?  Simple!  If you know a local family who’d like this experience for their child, invite them to check out these camps online, fill out the required forms, and then contact me.  Our church will write a check to the camp in a child’s name up to $750 per child per year to cover expenses not already covered by other scholarships and fundraising.

What’s the catch?  Well, there isn’t one.  We just want area youth to have a camp experience.  Many years ago, Mathilda [Billie] Peterson gifted a parcel of land to our congregation.  The proceeds from her generous gift now make up the Billie Peterson Campership Fund.   Our intent is to honor her legacy by sending local youth to camps.  If you have questions, contact Pastor Tom at [email protected]

Let’s get kids to camp this summer!
