Townhome Fire at Caribou Highlands Lodge

On March 16, 2026, at approximately 1:53 p.m. Cook County Dispatch was notified of smoke coming out of the back of one of the townhome units at Caribou Highlands Lodge.

At around 1:57 p.m. it was reported that flames were visible from outside the building.

The responding units are Lutsen FD, Lutsen First Responders, Tofte FD, Schroder FD, Grand Marais FD, Cook County Ambulance and the Cook County Sheriff’s Office. 

One building containing three townhomes was completely engulfed. Two neighboring buildings were evacuated as a precaution.

No injuries have been reported. The State Fire Marshal’s office has been notified.

This is still an active fire scene, so the public is reminded to please stay out of the area.
