Strong Northwest winds have created huge waves on all of the Great Lakes. Ore boats this week were hugging the North Shore staying out of the biggest waves. The 1000-foot Edgar Speer came as close to Grand Marais as I have seen an ore boat. Spray from the waves have been covering the ore boats with ice.
