Notice of Public Comment: Cook County Sheriff’s Office Body-Worn Camera Policy

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office will be implementing a Body-Worn Camera (BWC) program on January 1, 2026. According to Minnesota State law, all “local law enforcement must provide for public comment before it purchases or implements a portable recording system. At a minimum, the agency must accept public comments submitted electronically or by mail, and the governing body with jurisdiction over the budget of the law enforcement agency must provide for public comment at a regularly scheduled meeting.”

The written draft policy is now available for public comment. You can view the draft policy on the Cook County MN website here:  https://cookcountymn.gov/government/departments/sheriff/body_worn_camera_policy.php

The deadline for written comments to be submitted for consideration is 9 a.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2025.

Additionally, the Board will provide the opportunity for verbal comments at the regularly scheduled Board of Commissioners meeting on November 25, 2025, starting at 9 a.m. in the Commissioners Room of the Cook County Courthouse.
