The Cook County community is honoring local veterans this November with a month-long complimentary lunch program at The Hub, a special dinner at Birch Terrace, a free soup-and-sandwich from Gene's Foods, a free burger basket at Up Yonder, and the annual Veterans Day program at the Cook County High School.
Complimentary Lunches at The Hub during November
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 413 is sponsoring complimentary Veterans Day lunches for all veterans throughout the entire month of November. Lunches are hosted at The Hub (10 North Broadway, Grand Marais). Meals are available every weekday, Monday through Friday, throughout November.
Veterans can choose to dine at The Hub, pick up their meal to go, or arrange for delivery if they are a homebound veteran within 5 miles of Grand Marais, according to Hub Programs and Activities Director Chris Bautch. Frozen meals are also available for the weekends.
To ensure a meal is prepared, veterans must sign up by 9:30 a.m. on the day they wish to receive it by calling 218-387-2660. Veterans will be asked to provide their name and the branch of service.
Veterans Day Meal at Up Yonder
On Veterans Day, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., veterans can receive a free burger basket and Hamm's beer or fountain drink at Up Yonder in Grand Marais with a valid military ID.Veterans Day Lunch at Gene's Foods
Gene's Food will again offer a free sandwich and soup to veterans and their spouses on Veterans Day. Proof of military service is not required.Veterans Day Dinner at Birch Terrace
A Roast Beef Dinner, including coffee and cake, will be served at The Birch Terrace Supper Club on Tuesday, November 11, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The dinner is free for the veteran and their spouse/partner, and additional guests are welcome for $25 per person. This event is sponsored by American Legion Post 413 and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 413.
Veterans Day Program at Cook County High School
The community is invited to attend the annual program hosted by Cook County School District 166. The Veterans Day Program will take place on Tuesday, November 11, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Pam Taylor Gymnasium.
