Took another drive this week up the Gunflint Trail to look for moose around the various beaver ponds with Katie Slanga who is known for her ability to find these awesome creatures. Katie saw eight moose that day while I saw five moose and three stumps. After I drove by the stumps Katie got photos of three big bulls once the stumps started moving.

The other five were pretty easy to see as they crossed the road in front of us. First were the cow and calf who gave us an inquisitive look. The young bull in the back of the group headed up the ski trail. I gave a couple of quick cow calls and he turned around to see if I was for real. 

After a couple more calls one of the cows that had run over the hill came charging back. I am sure she was thinking that she wasn’t about to share her guy with this other cow that moved in. At first, she had her ears back and was making a sound that made me glad we were by the car. Her guy was nothing but smiles.
