At 11:34 am on August 11, 2025, Lake County Dispatch received a 911 call stating that a male had jumped off the High Falls within Tettegouche State Park and had not resurfaced.  Lake County Deputies, Lake County Rescue Squad, Silver Bay Police Department, Park Rangers, MN DNR, MN State Patrol, and Lake County Ambulance all responded.

Once on scene, MN DNR Enforcement Officers deployed an underwater ROV.  At approximately 1:46 p.m. the victims, a 54-year old male, was located by the ROV at the base of the falls.

The victim has been identified as Gregory Corniea, a 54-year old male from Edina, MN.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office personnel learned the victim was visiting the area with his family and jumped from the top of the High Falls on the Baptism River.  It appears the victim hit his head on the rocks near the base of the falls while entering the water and did not resurface.  The victim was transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy as a standard protocol.

Lake County Sheriff Nathan Stadler would like to express his sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Corniea.

Sheriff Stadler would also like to thank all responders for their quick response and assistance during this incident.
