The Grand Marais Public Library is pleased to host Sandra Hisakuni to teach a haiku workshop on Saturday, July 19, from 10:30 AM to 12 PM.
Hisakuni will read from her award-winning book of haikus, The Northland Beckons, revealing her inspiration from both Japan and the Boundary Waters, which shows how haiku marks a profound connection with the natural world. Last year, The Northland Beckons won a Moonbeam Award for children’s poetry.
Sandra will present her approach to using figurative language and sound devices when composing her haikus. Additionally, she will teach how to write a haiku and guide participants through the process of writing their own haikus and illustrating them. There will even be an opportunity for participants to share their haikus if they like.
All supplies will be provided to participants. This workshop is free for ages eight and up—and no sign-up is required. Check out the author’s website to learn more: www.sandrawriter.com
Our Summer Reading Program continues in July with another special event, Dinosaurs with the Science Museum of Minnesota, on July 22, at 1 PM. Visit our website www.grandmaraislibrary.org for more information about our Summer Reading Program.
