The Cook County Pride Committee has announced the schedule for the annual Pride Celebration, a community event dedicated to fostering inclusivity, on Saturday, June 14, 2025. The celebration will take place in downtown Grand Marais, Minnesota, with the theme "Love is Our Resistance." Events will be held at central Grand Marais locations, including Harbor Park and The Hub.

Scheduled events for June 14, 2025, include:

  • 9-10 a.m.: Free yoga in Harbor Park with Carly, with The Hub serving as an indoor option during adverse weather.
  • 10 a.m.: Drag Story Hour featuring Cravin' Catastrophe at The Hub.
  • 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.: Crafts and sign-making at The Hub.
  • 11 a.m.: A guided writing session, "Write Your Coming Out Story," with Brian Malloy at The Hub.
  • 12 p.m.: An OutFront talk at The Hub, which will also provide snacks and lunch.
  • 3:30 - 5 p.m.: Community singing, music making, and a community dance in Harbor Park, inviting collective participation.
  • 5 p.m.: A rally and march in Harbor Park, including three scheduled speeches.
  • 6-8 p.m.: A free dinner provided by Double D's Catering and Angry Trout Cafe, followed by a social hour featuring live music from local 2SLGBTQ+ musicians in Harbor Park.
  • 9 p.m.: A DJ dance party at Up Yonder with Birthday Gurl and DJ Anjo.

During the 2024 Cook County Pride Celebration, a bomb threat was received via email the morning of the event. The Cook County Sheriff's Office was immediately notified, and deputies conducted precautionary sweeps of the designated buildings, which concluded with no findings. The Crow Wing County Bomb Squad was also consulted and determined that the Sheriff's Office did everything that the Bomb Squad would have done.

The Cook County Pride Committee confirmed they were made aware of the threat during the event in a press release following the event, and after consulting with law enforcement, determined there was no immediate safety risk and that the events could continue. "Part of our extensive planning involved designated security leaders from our local community and professional collaborators brought in for support," the 2024 release said. (The Pride Committee also hired Minneapolis-based Sequeerity, "a de-escalation team that is owned and operated by queer, and POC womxn whose goal is to create and maintain safe spaces for everyone, especially for the LGBTQIA+ community.")

Investigations by the Cook County Sheriff's Office and the FBI determined that the threats were part of multiple "swatting" incidents and may have originated from a Russian email address, which was bot-generated. The FBI had previously issued warnings in May 2024 regarding potential "swatting" threats to LGBTQ+ events.

For the upcoming 2025 event, the committee told Boreal Community Media in an interview earlier this year that they will utilize similar security measures as in previous years. "We are pleased to say that the security measures we had in place last year functioned exactly as they were meant to, so we will use those same measures this year," adding, "We do always have a security plan in place and we do our very best to make our events safe."

The celebration relies on community involvement, according to the Pride Committee, and those interested in volunteering for the 2025 event are encouraged to sign up by emailing [email protected]. Additional details are available on the official Cook County Pride website, cookcountypride.org.
