On April 30, 2025, Deputies from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office were notified that a stolen vehicle from Lake County had been located in Grand Portage and the suspect had fled into the woods. The responding deputies requested assistance from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Eddy, and Deputy Paul Spry was called out.
When the K-9 unit arrived, they deployed into the forest where the suspect was last seen. After a short search, Eddy located the person hiding in an abandoned building. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
Sheriff Pat Eliasen stated, “This was a shining example of the benefit of a tracking asset such as Eddy. Deputy Spry has done a fantastic job of training with Eddy for these specific scenarios.”
Assisting Cook County Deputies were the Grand Portage Conservation Officers who made the initial notification and supported the subsequent arrest.
