The severe storms that rolled through Northeast Minnesota earlier this month caused damage that has impacted yet another event: the Lutsen 99er. Race organizers announced earlier this week that due to extensive tree damage and flooding, some portions of the 99er course are unpassable. Fortunately, the 29er, 45er, and the 69er routes are unaffected.
According to a Facebook post from June 25, race organizers said: "The 99er course has an insurmountable number of trees down and some parts are impassible. The 99er course was stunningly beautiful and we were excited for you to experience it - so we’re already looking forward to that opportunity next year!"
Instead of cancelling the 99er portion of the race, which is set to take place on Saturday, June 29 with the other three routes, the 99er races will follow the 69er route. Organizers said, "If you are registered for the 99er, you will still race your fellow 99ers for awards and be eligible for both merit-based Leadville coins and the drawing for the additional coins."
