An update issued at 5:00pm by the Cook County Sheriff's Office stated that the cell tower has been repaired and service is restored.

On Friday, December 8, the Cook County Sheriff's Office notified the public on Facebook about disrupted cell service throughout the Grand Marais area. The post noted that there is not a known cause, nor is there a projected repair time, however, the appropriate crews have been notified and are working towards a fix.
The post recommended phone users utilize wireless broadband service if possible.
