UPDATE October 3, 2022: Payments begin Wednesday for more than one million applicants approved for Frontline Worker Payments

From the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry - August 31, 2022

The appeal period for Frontline Worker Pay closed Aug. 31, 2022, at 5 p.m. (CT). Appeals are now being processed. Those who submitted an appeal will be notified of the final decision after all appeals have been processed. Those who were notified no further action was needed for their application will also be notified of the final decision after all appeals have been processed. The commissioner of the Department of Labor and Industry's decisions on an appeal is final.

Next steps

Payments will not be made to any eligible frontline worker until all appeals are processed. The $500 million dedicated to Frontline Worker Pay will be evenly divided among all eligible frontline workers whose application was approved. Final communications and payments are expected in the fall of 2022.

About the appeal process

Applicants who were notified their application had been denied had the right to appeal the decision during a 15-day appeal period, Aug. 16 through 31, 2022, by successfully submitting online forms. The information required in the appeal form depended on the reason for the denial. Each denial reason had a corresponding appeal form that was accessible from the applicant's Submittable account.

If the applicant did not complete and successfully submit all appeal forms during the appeals period the denial will be final.

About Frontline Worker Pay

To thank those Minnesotans who worked on the frontlines during the COVID-19 peacetime emergency, Gov. Tim Walz signed Frontline Worker Payments into law April 29, 2022, enabling those workers to apply for Frontline Worker Pay.

Those frontline workers meeting eligibility requirements in the law were encouraged to apply for Frontline Worker Pay during a 45-day application period, June 8 through July 22, 2022.

At the close of the Frontline Worker Pay application -- and just 12 weeks since the day the program was signed into law -- 1,199,512 active submissions had been received for consideration of payment during the extremely successful 45-day application period.
