Applications open to hunt elk in Minnesota
Interested hunters have through Friday, June 17, to apply for one of 30 elk licenses offered this year by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Seasons will run from late August to mid-October. Hunters can choose from three license options: a license for a bull elk; a license for an antlerless elk, which can be a female or a young male; or a license for either a bull or antlerless elk. It’s important that hunters review the elk season structure on the DNR website prior to entering the lottery to ensure they apply for the license they want.
DNR webinars cover muskie management, Cuyuna recreation area
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources invites Minnesotans interested in fishing, wildlife and outdoor skills to tune into upcoming webinars that will discuss muskellunge and the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area.
The first webinar, on muskie management and fishing, will be at noon Wednesday, June 1. TJ Debates, DNR fisheries supervisor, will talk about how the DNR manages muskie, where muskie live and some tips on how to catch them. Anglers can begin fishing for muskellunge in Minnesota on Saturday, June 4. There are muskie fishing opportunities across the state, including in the seven-county metro area.
The second webinar, on the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area, will be at noon Wednesday, June 8. Learn about the state’s first recreation area, which is centrally located in Minnesota and offers premier mountain biking, scuba diving, fishing, boating and much more.
The webinars are part of the DNR’s Minnesota Outdoor Skills and Stewardship Series, which aims to give participants quick, relevant information on upcoming seasons and events, as well as skills to enjoy these opportunities.
