Free Opportunity to Learn about Pride Month in Cook County - June 4th
From the Grand Marais Public Library and Cook County Higher Education
Grand Marais Public Library and Cook County Higher Education are hosting a free community program designed to welcome everyone into the many Pride celebrations happening in Cook County this June. Led by Matt Lewellyn-Otten of OutFront Minnesota, the Cultivating Your LGBTQ+ Pride workshop aims to reveal the deep significance of Pride month by providing LGBTQ+ 101 and a brief history of queer liberation.
It will be held at Cook County Higher Education on Saturday, June 4, 2022 from 3:00 PM until 4:30 PM.
Participants will learn about the shifting terminology around LGBTQ+ inclusion, best practices in using pronouns, and how they can be a better ally. They will also explore the 1969 Stonewall riots and the ongoing work of achieving justice and equal opportunity for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning individuals. It will speak to the impact each individual can have on making our community more welcoming to one another. Matt Lewellyn-Otten (they & he) is the Religious Organizer and public education specialist at OutFront Minnesota. He works with faith communities across the state to bring them along in the advocacy and inclusion of queer people in all faith practices.Grand Marais Public Library and Cook County Higher Education are hosting a free community program designed to welcome everyone into the many Pride celebrations happening in Cook County this June.
