A group of veterans with the Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation (WWIA) are on a hunting and fishing trip in the Northland this weekend.

The WWIA is a non-profit that takes Purple Hearts recipients from around the country on outdoor excursions.

This weekends trip brought several vets, like Cody Perkins, all the way from the southern U.S. to the woods of Northwest Wisconsin.

"Actually Muskie fishing is what I'm most excited about. I've never even seen one in person," said Perkins.

Perkins said he's been on similar trips before.

"It's really a blessing to have this opportunity for people to really take the time and be so charitable to give us these experiences," he said.

The WWIA says their goal is to provide wounded vets with the opportunity to experience fellowship with other people that have had similar experiences.

They hope their work can help the recovery process of combat-wounded vets, while also allowing them to have a good time.

"If I get a three foot Muskie out here that thing is going on the wall. I'd be probably the only person in my area with a Muskie on the wall," said Perkins.

The WWIA accepts applications from any and all Purple Heart recipients.

They also accept applications for trip hosts.  You can find more information on their website.
