A Duluth man has died after being hit by a bus outside the Miller Hill Mall on Friday morning.

Police said 64-year-old David John Weston was hit by a Duluth Transit Authority bus outside of Dick's Sporting Goods at about 9:52 a.m. Weston was pinned under the bus when officers and firefighters arrived on the scene.

Firefighters used airbags to lift the bus off Weston. He passed away despite lifesaving efforts by firefighters, police officers, and personnel from the Minnesota State Patrol and Mayo Ambulance.

"The Duluth Police Department and Duluth Fire Department wish to offer their condolences to Mr. Weston's loved ones. The Duluth Police Department also wants to remind everyone to drive slowly, put down the distractions, and watch for pedestrians," police said in a news release.

The State Patrol is assisting Duluth Police in conducting an investigation. Police said they will release additional information once the investigation is complete.
