The massive beach ball making its way around a local lake has a lot of people wondering where it came from and where it's headed next.

Over a month ago on Island Lake, just a half-hour outside of Duluth, is where the floating beach ball's adventure began.

A little boy received the 6-foot round ball for his birthday and let it set sail on the 4th of July. It has now collected signatures and messages from whomever it's floated up to.

"It's bigger than me and I've never seen anything like the size of it," said Island Lake resident Presley Paulson.

Denise Bussa who also lives on the lake said the ball floats to shore, residents sign it, then it's pushed back to continue the journey.

"So my husband and a few friends that were visiting went searching for it. It was kind of like doing a treasure hunt," said Bussa.

11-year-old Presley Paulson says she likes to hunt for the ball with her friends on kayaks and jet skis.

She says the Island Lake beach ball has made this summer one she will never forget.

"It's exciting our names on it. It's kinda cool so I hope they do it next year too," said Paulson.

The ball will be back in the water Thursday.  The Roberts family who started the tradition plans to take it out of water for the season on Labor Day.

Island Lake residents can track the whereabouts of the ball on their community's Facebook page.
