The Cook County Recycling Center will resume full operations beginning July 1, which will include the reopening of the Budget Shop.

The Recycling Center had set temporary hours and the Budget Shop had closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hours for the Recycling Center’s materials drop-off bay beginning July 1:

  • Monday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Tuesday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Wednesday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Thursday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Friday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Saturday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

The Recycling Center will remain closed for after-hours drop-off since it will now be open six days a week and have extended hours on Thursdays.

Hours for the Budget Shop beginning July 1 through Oct. 23:

  • Monday through Friday, 12:30-4:30 p.m.
  • Saturdays, 9 a.m. -1 p.m.

Although people may be holding onto materials that have accumulated during the closure of the Budget Shop, Cook County staff requests that donations be brought in smaller loads over time to give the staff adequate time to sort through items.

“The patience of the Recycling Center and Budget Shop’s patrons and donors is greatly appreciated,” Cook County Land Services Director Tim Nelson said.

The facility will continue to be monitored through surveillance cameras to minimize any prohibited dumping, which has been a problem in the past.
