A Duluth man is in jail after police say he attacked and stabbed a 78-year-old man he didn't know in the Lakeside neighborhood Wednesday.

Warren Holt, 28, has been booked into the St. Louis County Jail on 1st Degree Aggravated Robbery, 1st and 2nd Degree Assault, and Motor Vehicle Theft charges.

Police say Holt was looking at the victim's truck earlier that day. Holt apparently told the man he liked his truck and asked the victim some more questions about it.

Holt apparently left but returned a short time later. Police say Holt found the victim in his garage and assaulted him.

The suspect then took the keys to the truck and stole the vehicle.

Police issued a regional alert attempting to locate the vehicle and suspect.

A short time later, authorities in Carlton County located the vehicle near I-35 and the Scanlon exit and took Holt into custody.

At some point, a neighbor who was outside mowing ended up finding the victim and called 911.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for his injuries including stab wounds, broken bones, and facial injuries.

Police did not specify how long it took the neighbor to discover the victim after the attack.

The incident is under investigation.

Holt is awaiting charges.
